It sounds like feline rhinotracheitis virus - also known as FHV-1 infection. It is characterized by respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge and conjunctivitis.  Un-vaccinated cats are especially susceptible. Treatment includes keeping the cat in a warm, well ventilated environment, making sure he or she is eating and drinking and keeping the eyes and nose clean and free of discharge.  humidifier can also help. Stress can trigger this condition to become worse, so try to comfort the cat and keep him calm. Your vet may prescribe oral anti-biotics or decongestant drops.

There is a complex of viruses that cause feline upper respiratory disease complex in cats.  This can lead to sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, lethargy, fever, conjunctivitis and anorexia.  Stray cats need to be tested for feline leukemia and FIV (kitty aids)--these diseases attack the immune system and cats infected will often present with respiratory signs and gradually become emaciated.
A stray cat needs to be examined by a veterinarian to make sure there is not an underlying disease that has led to the weight loss and respiratory signs.  This cat also needs to be screened for intestinal parasites and vaccinated.
