How Many Credits Do You Need To Get An Associate Degree?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It depends on what your major is in college and what school you go to, but an associate degree is usually around 60 credits' worth of work.
    Moe input from others:

Depending on what type of college you choose to go to, it is roughly 60 credits (give or take). You must also take the recommended courses by the institution to complete the associates. Say, for example an associates in Psychology-these credits would need to apply to psychology (ie: Abnormal psychology, human growth and development and so on. You cannot just take 60 credits of classes to get an associates. If you are unsure on the field you want to work an associates in liberal arts is probably the way to go.

Depends on the granting institution. Most that I've seen require 60-62 credit hours. It also depends on what courses you have, certain requirements have to be meet for any degree.

Usually on the order of 60 semester credit hours or 90 quarter credit hours.

Most states recognize 60 semester hours as enough hours to issue an associate degree.
I might add, it is important to understand the state mandate for the number of credits needed for an associates degree which can differ from state to state, as some have indicated. In New Jersey the state mandate is now a minimum of 64 credits for an AA, AS, or AAS. This is the state mandate. Still, as mentioned above, specific programs may require more
