Why Are SO Many People Telling Me I Should NEVER Have Kids, Just Because Of My Mental Disability?
I'll be 25 next month. I have my college degree. Look at what I've accomplished. Family members, acquaintances, social workers, etc. Tell me, "You'd better NOT get pregnant, or else I'll have your baby put up for welfare & I'll arrange for that BEFORE you can even give birth because you're crazy!" **Dog, I wish I had more space to write!**

What kind of mental disability do you have? One reason why i think your family doesn't want you to get pregnant is because they want you to save up your money a lot, make some more great choices and then settle down and have children. I think that another reason is that what ever disability you have might have and effect on the baby either you pass it on to he/she or sometimes there might be some complications while giving birth. It just all depends on what kind of mental disability you have. I know, all this coming from a 17 yr old? What do i know, but it is common sense.

I believe your family may not want you to have kids as what you have can be passed to the child at a stronger, more higher level of disability and scared that you won't be able to handle it or the child will be able to accomplish what you have.
I think your best bet is to ask a doctor whom you trust and won't be influenced by your family (ie not family doctor or a close friend family but to you). Than take the doctors words or get a second opinion to see if will be life/death to have a child and how child will be (if disability be lot stronger and such). If you side with not having a child due to risks and complications I suggest adopt a child or foster a child. It would be like your own child, many times it's a bigger reward than having your own as you are helping a little child get a life they may not of had the opportunity for. Just a suggestion..
Also don't allow others to influence your decision, base it on facts.
good luck.
