What Happened With The Sex Pistols On TV With Grundy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Sex Pistols were a popular punk rock band that was in the news as much for their antics as for their antics. The group was formed in London in 1975 and proved to be an instant hit; the group signed to EMI after the release of their single 'Anarchy in the UK' which announced their arrival on the punk music scene something which they are credited with popularizing.

The band was invited as guests on the program Today presented by Thames Television on December 1, 1976. The band as well as the host Bill Grundy appeared on the show which was broadcast live in an inebriated state. The team members as well as Grundy's behavior was deemed to be inappropriate and showed them in poor light with Johnny Rotten the lead vocalist of the group and Steve Jones mouthing obscenities and Grundy trying to flirt with a member of the entourage.

The incident caused a public outburst with most of the newspapers (the famous headline 'The Filth and the Fury' appeared in the Daily Mirror describing the event) and tabloid magazines providing extensive coverage. Grundy was sacked from Thames Television only to be reinstated later while EMI released the Sex Pistols from their contract.
