How To "Cleaning" A Hard Drive.

I have an old Gateway that is just taking up space in my basement, and I would like to sell it or give it away, but first I need to clear the hard drive of my personal information. Can this be done?

Yes you can usually just reformat the drive using windows. But if this is the windows partition - the one which stores the windows files and you wish to keep Windows on the PC, then you will need to go over all of the folders and clear out the personal files manually.

If this is the only hard drive in the computer and you don't want to keep windows on there then you will probably need to attach it to another computer as an additional drive and format it or use command line / installation disc to format before windows starts.
