Resting the guitar on your right thigh, place the right thumb on E string and index and middle fingers on D string. Pluck the G string with the index finger and allow it fall back on D string. Repeat with middle finger. Practice with increasing speed, and make sure you do not loose accuracy with each pluck.
Place the left thumb on the back of the neck of the guitar and allow the index finger to touch the first fret on D string. Similarly the middle finger is on the fret of second string, third finger on the third fret and fourth finger on fourth fret making sure all the time that the fingertips are holding down the strings.
With the right index finger on the G string play the open note, now with the left finger on the first fret play the note again. Practice it. Now with finger on first fret play the open note, then place second finger on second fret play the open note, then play the G. Continue to practice with all four fingers. Many new combinations are possible and practice makes perfect. Once you are familiar with this, start with your first finger on second fret and repeat the pattern, then with first finger on third fret, etc.
With left index finger on first fret move the entire hand so that it moves to second fret and each finger is on each subsequent fret. After you have gone all the way up, start at the second fret and travel all the way up the fingerboard. Repeat this on each string.
