What Is The Population Of London?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, and has been a settlement since ancient times, in fact for probably at least two thousand years.

Problems clearly defining the population of London relate to its size, in other words, where London starts and ends. The London area has become such a large conurbation, that nowadays it is difficult to know what to include in the definition, as a lot of previously separate towns, such as Croydon, are now part of the urban sprawl of London.

Most definitions now refer to the area of Greater London, which is an English region in its own right. Greater London has a population of 7.5 million, making London one of the most populous cities in the world.

Despite the large population and congestion, London has a lot of parks both in its inner area, and in its more suburban areas, giving London a relatively "green" and spacious feel.
