Do I Need To Remove Vinyl Flooring If Im Going To Tile?

Answer Question

Yes,there needs to be a solid surface for tile to rest on and vynilgives too much and will cause the tile to crack in short order.the time you think you save by tiling over the vinyl will be offset by the time you spend pulling up all the busted tile you just put down and all the money you wasted trying to save time. No, don't try to save time, do it right the first time.

It depends how solid the Vinyl is, Is it bubbled or coming up in some parts? Is it a flat finish or is it textured or raised "the vinyl?" I would remove it, however it can be placed over the vinyl if you really must. I would use a Mastic not a Thinset, the Mastic would adhair to the vinyl. Make sure the floor is vinyl is not lifting in any spots before you lay tile and you should be ok.
