Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The New York Dolls are a popular American rock band formed in the early seventies that had a considerable influence on the punk rock scene in the US. Their dress sense as much as their distinct style of playing both could be considered to be one of the major features of the punk and glam rock genres which led to several bands coming up in this genre. Bands like Hanoi Rocks, The Ramones, Blondie, XTC and Guns n Roses and The Smiths were some of the groups who were inspired by the Dolls.

The British impresario Malcolm McLaren who was the manager of the Dolls for a brief period was the brain behind the cross-dressing style that was one of the highlights of the group's public persona. The Sex Pistols a celebrated band from the UK in the late seventies which was managed by McLaren was profoundly influenced by the New York Dolls who could be considered to be the forerunners of the punk rock era.
