The planet Pluto is named after the Goddess Nymph Pluto from the Greek Mythology. She was the mother of Tantalus from her union with the god Zeus. Pluto was said to have been the daughter of Tethys and Oceanus. On the contrary Pluto was the name given to the Roman version of Hades. He was the god of the underworld and the lover of Persephone. He ruled over the land of the dead.
