Who Invented The Airplane?

The first working model of the airplane was invented by the Wright Brothers in 1903. There were some before them as well who had tried making a flying air craft but had not been successful. This model of the airplane made a 12 second long flight  and covered an area of about 36.5m. This aircraft was unsafe and extremely strong wind dependent.
Despite the Wright Brothers being the ones who invented the first airplane, the first airplane to take public flights was invented by Santos Dumont.

I think it was wilbur and Orville wright.

The Wright Brothers aircraft need a catapult to throw them in the air at high speed to fly, and that does not fulfill the criteria to be an airplane, Santos Dumont invented the first independent flying aircraft, the 14-Bis, and so it was the first real airplane.
