Learning to drive encompasses learning a wide range of different road layouts which can sometimes be confusing for an inexperienced driver.
Your instructor will teach you how to tackle the layouts in the simplest way to help you to gain confidence in facing them. For example, you may be taken to a more area to practice entering and exiting a roundabout.
- Roundabouts
You will learn the rules of a roundabout including how to signal and change lane and the right of way on a roundabout.
- Traffic Lights
Your instructor should show you how to use traffic lights, in terms of filter lights and road layouts, including right of way if the lights are at a two-way junction.
- Traffic Calmed Routes
The lessons should include some coverage of driving through a quiet area, with speed bumps and traffic islands for calming the routes.
- Junctions
You will practice many times the manoeuvre of approaching a junction, signalling and moving out of the junction at a safe point.
- Priority Junctions
You may drive through a road layout where oncoming traffic is given priority, usually in more quiet suburban areas, where the road narrows into a single lane.
