      Protocol: In the field of computers protocol can simply be defined as the standard for communication with the help of protocol one can establish connection between two or more computers in order to share or transfer the data between computers. The protocols might be implemented by software or hardware or there is also the possibility to implement the protocols at software or at hardware level. There are different kinds of protocols used for different purposes some of the most commonly used protocols are

      (1) IP (Internet Protocol): Used for transferring data over packed switched network.
      (2) DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.): With the help of these protocol devices like routers, a computer assigns IP addresses dynamically on request.
      (3) SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol): SMTP is simply used to transfer E-Mails over the internet.
      (4) FTP: File Transfer Protocol: Data transfer from one computer to another computer over the internet is done through this protocol.
      (5) HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol): HTTP is used to transfer and convey data to the World Wide Web.
      (6) TCP (Transfer Control Protocol): Through TCP protocol one can establish connection of applications of networked hosts.  
      The most important and commonly used protocol in today's internet era is the TCP (Transfer Control Protocol) and the IP (Internet Protocol).
