Wheel chair ramp is the inclined plane installed with stairs for wheel chairs. According to current standards, practiced worldwide, the minimum width of the ramp must be 36 inches and the slope must not be steeper than 1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of length.

I know in commercial building the egress for a wheelchair has to be 42" clear to accommodate a wheel chair. 36" is fine but 42" is a lot easier to manage a wheelchair without the possibility of banging your fingeas on the railing.
