Is It True That Madonna Has Just Adopted A Child?

Yes, it does seem to be true, according to media reports. Madonna spent two weeks in Malawi during early October 2006 where she highlighted the plight of children whose parents have died of AIDS. She has pledged three million dollars to help children there.

During the trip, she has adopted a 13 month old boy whose mother died after giving birth to him and whose father says he does not have enough money to raise and look after him. Some people are not happy with the adoption because it seems to have happened too quickly and they are worried that the usual regulations have been flouted.

Madonna has been accused of using her wealth and status to bypass normal procedures but the baby was already with her at her home in London by the middle of October. The Malawian courts now have to review the adoption and come to a final decision in the next 18 months.
