People with fair skin are more likely to get sun damage than people with darker skin. This is especially true if you also have freckles. This is due to a lack of a protective pigment in the skin called Melanin. So with that in mind you generally need to wear a SPF of at least 18, and really one that is even higher to stop you from getting any sun damage to your skin.

People with fair skin and light coloured hair are also more at risk of skin cancer and even sunbeds can cause skin cancer if you are not careful. Overall a lot more care does need to be taken and a very high SPF needs to be worn. There is no such thing as a healthy tan and all tans are down to the burning of the skin. This can make you age prematurely and it is extremely bad for your health. So keeping yourself covered, and wearing a high SPF is highly recommended.
