    BMI (Body Mass Index) is a person's weight calculated using their height. It can be used to define if a subject is over or underweight and whether their weight is in healthy proportion to their height. The calculation works out to a person's body weight divided by the square of their height, and can be expressed using the following formula:

    BMI = weight (kg)
    Height x height (m x m)

    For example, if you stood at 6 feet, and weighed 200 pounds, your BMI would be calculated at 27.1. Conversely, if you were 5 feet 5 inches and weighed 100 pounds, your BMI would be 16.6, making you underweight according to the scale. The index at its virtual lowest is 15, which would be at near starvation level, while 40 is considered to be dangerously, or morbidly obese. A BMI of less than 18.5 is generally considered to be underweight, while 25 and above can be seen as being overweight. Many sites will also offer a calculating program from working out your BMI.

      BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is basically the measure of the weight of the person according to the height of the person. Basically BMI was devised to simply measure the fatness or thinness of the person with respect to his or her weight and height.

      The simplest formula for calculating the BMI is

      BMI = mass (in kilograms) / (height * height) in meter.

      Now if you are 6 feet tall then to calculate your BMI you have to convert your height from feet to meters. And also you have to convert your weight from pounds to kilograms.

      As we know,

      1 foot = 0.3048 meter
      Thus,
      6 feet = 0.3048/1*6 = 1.8288 meter

      Now, to convert your weight from pound to kilogram.

      1 pound = 0.45359 kilograms
      Thus,
      200 pounds = 0.45359/1*200 = 90.718 kilograms

      Now just calculate your BMI according to the formula given above

      BMI = 90.718 / (1.8288*1.8288)
      BMI = 90.718 / 3.34450944
      BMI = 27.1244

      This is your BMI. Some general rules about BMI are that if it ranges from 18.5 to 25 then your weight is normal according to your height. If the BMI is less then 18.5 then the person is underweight and if it is greater then 25 and less then 29.9 then the person is overweight and any value greater then 29.9 indicates Obesity.
