Carrefour is a hypermarket chain having its origin in France. It has a global network of outlets. It opened its operations in Japan in the year 2000 and has 7 stores there. Japan's entry strategy was based on low cost as it is a discount store. It keeps the procurement costs down by buying directly from the producers. This has been very effective so far. Carrefour does not need an exit strategy as it has been successful so far.

Not true Aicha. Carrefour failed in Japan. Carrefour as a company has ended business in Japan and quit Japan. The brand Carrefour does remain in Japan, however it is just used as a brand by a Japanese retailer without license payments or any special connection to the Company called Carrefour.
