    Moon Landrieu's proper name Maurice Edwin Landrieu was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1979 to 1981 in the Cabinet of President Jimmy Carter. He was appointed the post after President Jimmy Carter made Patricia Robert Harris the Secretary of Housing, Education and Welfare and a vacancy was created. Before becoming the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Moon Landrieu was the Mayor of the city of New Orleans.

    He was the mayor from the year 1970 to the year 1978. The last white person to occupy this post as every one after him has been an African American. Before this he had served as a member at large of the New Orleans City Council from 1966 to 1970. Earlier still from 1960 to 1966 he was part of the Louisiana House of Representatives.
