How Many Years It Takes Me To Learn How To Fly?

Answer Question

If you want to fly, you can do so in a matter of two to three months. It does not take years to obtain the necessary knowledge and experience to fly a single engine aircraft as a private pilot. However, to be able to operate such an aircraft solo, one has to obtain a private pilot license. This license is the essential first step to flying on one's own as well as becoming a professional pilot.

To obtain the private pilot license, you would have to complete the required number of hours (generally 35 hours) flying a single engine aircraft such as a Cessna 152, Cessna 172 Skyhawk, Alarus CH-2000 or the likes of it. A ground course recommended by FAA would also have to be completed where you will gain working knowledge of aerodynamics, weather, cross country navigation, flight safety etc. The duration for such a course is about one month.

If you wish to go a step ahead, you should go for a license which will allow you to fly multi-engine aircrafts. If your ultimate goal is to be a professional pilot, you should have maximum hours on multi engine aircraft. The duration of this certification is about one week and you can train on an aircraft such as Piper PA-34 Seneca.

The last step is a commercial Pilot license, which will allow you to work as a pilot and get paid for this. This training and certification takes a lot of hard work and perseverance. Here one has to learn to become an expert in flying the aircraft. It may take six to eight months or more to complete this training and get certified.

If you choose to take flying lessons, understand it is a life-long process. And, while I was raised around Piper aircraft all of my growing-up years, I will tell you that a Piper Seneca is a powerful aircraft not forgiving to the novice pilot. Consider John F. Kennedy, Jr. and the tragic end to he, his wife, and his sister-in-law. Multiple private crashes in the Rocky Mountains and elsewhere are due to "Sunday pilots" out for a weekend of entertainment or travel to a ski destination or summer cottage - and, they fail to consider plane load and temperature variations and the influence on lift. They don't understand or respect the dynamics of flight.

My dad, an outstanding pilot and aeronautical engineer, had great regard for Jon Travolta - He felt that that man truly understands the huge responsibility and alertness, training and seasoning, that is required of a true pilot.

Well, to learn something like flying it does not take a very long period of time. You just need to get concentrated on your aim. Once you are determined to do so, you will do it.

To learn how to fly, first thing you need to do is to attend some coaching classes and training for this. There are many flying schools in all countries. Those school will charge you some amount for getting coaching and training there. And once you will successfully complete your training. You will be able to fly. Normally the duration of these courses are not more than 6 months. But in case of military of air force, They will take more time. But it is their basic requirement as you know it well.

So if you start to attend a flying course. Probably you will learn how to fly within a week. But after that you need some more training to get expert in flying. It is same as first you need to learn how to drive a car. But when you learn it. You've to practice it for being perfect. The same thing is applicable on flying as well.

I do not agree that practice makes perfect in flying any aircraft. So-called "Sunday pilots" make mistakes. In a plane they are usually deadly. There is no "perfect" to flying - there is only experience and the hope that one's "teaching moments" do not result in a tragic test score.
