How Much Should I Charge For Creating Pencil Or Colour Portraits?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The best thing to do would be to work out how long it takes you to create the portrait and then take it from there.

You could use minimum wage as a guideline to help you work out how much to charge. But obviously if you are an artist or illustrator then you should be charging more than minimum wage, as you need to cover art materials and transport costs if you have to travel to produce the portrait.

Do some research. Have a look at what other artists or illustrators are charging these days.

If it takes you a long time to complete a portrait, then you want to be charging a fairly high price, as you don't want to be working long hours for very little money.

Charge different prices for different sizes of portraits. For example, if you charge £40 for an A4 protrait, then double the price for an A3 portrait.

Make sure you charge a fairly high price for colour portraits as these are not only time-consuming, but require extra art materials as well.
