Where Was The Concept Of Wedding Favors Originated From At The First Time?

The term wedding favors we normally use to refer to those gifts that are given by the bride and groom to the guests to say thank to them for attending this ceremony.The wedding favor custom is too old to tell precisely where it was originate from. No body can tell that what is the real history of this tradition of distributing the wedding favors.

It is a most likely custom followed by people for hundreds or even thousands of years. It has been a part of wedding ceremonies across the cultures worldwide since the 16th century. Normally it is said that, they were the high class European people that are actually the founders of this tradition. But at that time, no specific term like wedding favors was used to refer it. The gifts that were given at that time were known as a French name 'bonbonniere'.

The bobbonniere were actually the boxes of crystal or precious stones, full of sugar cubes. Sugar was very expensive thing at that time.  The theme of these gifts has evolved over time.

The wedding favors had diverse styles and themes in different cultures and different times but actually these gifts are form of couple's imaginations.
There are different themes of wedding favors used today like; packed chocolates, Jordan almonds etc.
