Antarctica is itself a desert.  In fact, its the largest desert as far as area is concerned.A desert is not hot area with lots of sand. In fact, a desert can be defined as "a region that receives very little precipitation."

Antarctica receives very little precipitation as well. Its average rainfall is approx. 35-50 cms.

Antarctica receives less rainfall than any other desert on earth, which is why it itself is considered a desert.
