Who Wrote Little Women?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Louisa May Alcott, the American novelist, is best known for her semi-autobiographical novel Little Women (written in 1868). She is best known as a juvenile writer and based her books on her life's experiences. She penned down under the pseudonyms A. Barnard and Flora Fairfield as well.
Little Women, is a warm realistic story that comes alive as each character develops. Her writing portrays clearly her love of romance, comedy and tragedy as well as her understanding of human nature. The novel may be a little daunting because of its sheer size and volume but her fresh, crisp, light, humorous style of writing more than compensates for it. Most classics appeal to only a certain class of people but this book promises something for everyone with romance, humor, tragedy, drama and happy endings.
Though it seems that it is overly religious (especially at the start of the book), a little too moralistic and even preachy at times, it is balanced by the fact that it is a magnificent achievement that is still as relevant and heartbreaking today as it ever was.
