Where Is Milan?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Milan is the capital of the north Italian region, Lombardy. After a highly eventful history, Milan gained independence in the year 1183. After independence it had a series of rulers including the French, the Sforza family and the Habsburgs. It was later conquered by Napoleon in the year 1796 and made it the capital city of his Italian empire in the year 1805. It was integrated into Italy after its unification. It suffered heavy damages in the course of World War II but was soon restructured.

Today, Milan is Italy's economic and commercial capital, mostly due its industrial development and its growth in the area of textile manufacturing. It is well-known for its developed fashion industry and is the ranks among the top hotspots for 'haute couture' beside Paris and New York.

It is filled with old architectural and historical monuments, the most famous being the Duomo, a large cathedral mad out of white marble.
