Does The 'special Relationship' Between The UK And US Administrations Have Substance Or Is The British Government Deluding Themselves?

I think Tony Blair and Bush are deluding themselves rather than the British government.

It seems to be a relationship very much based on the individuals Blair and Bush rather than a government thing.

Brown has said that if/when he becomes PM he will re-asses the relationship between the UK and the US and this needs doing as soon as possible. I think it's likely that Brown would be less keen to tow Bushes line in the way Blair has been doing.

I think that the British people have different views on the relationship between the US and Britain and feelings are strong because of the Iraq war and the current terrorist activity in the UK.

I really don't think that the Labour administration is as keen as Blair to follow Bush's lead in foreign policy issues. Now that the Democrats have more power in American policy it might act to curb Bush and his administration and also re-shape British attitudes toward this so called 'special relationship'. Brown is intelligent and knows the level of public feelings on Iraq and British public opinion and I'm sure he'll shape his own relationship and that of his administration in a different way to Blair .
