This is a very important question. But it has a background .too easily, I know I think about one problem at a time. But I believe we must start looking at the Whole problem, not just one symptom or result.
The 20th century was torn up by war in a way that we are still recovering from. World War ii, and the great war, World war i, profoundly shook up Europe and America, as well as the rest of the world, and cast a dark shadow that we are still feeling the ramifications of.
The Iraq War is legal in U.S. terms, yes, because President Bush asked for Congress approval. However, it overrates the U.S. role in the world in terms of international law. Most nations see the U.S. as trying to "fix the Middle East" all alone with a small handful of allies, with war as the tool of change.
The U.S. is now committed for a fairly long-term period. Even Democrats acknowledge that. They make no promises about when the troops will be home, because they know they can't at this point.
The best we (the U.S.) can do, and what we must do, is see this thing through and try to correct damage that has been caused, and go humbly before the international community and ask for support and cooperation. Before we get stuck for a decade.

I am Vet myself and fought in Vietnam, and did not believe in that war!
So I support my troops, but don't think we need to be there!
