Are There Any Home Remedies For A Fungal Infection Infection On My Cat's Neck?

Ringworm is the main fungal infection cats get and it's fairly common in domestic cats, especially those with long-hair. The conventional view is that home remedies are ineffective, but that topical treatment (creams you get from your vet) must be applied relatively long term (3-6 months) to be totally effective, too.

Ask your vet about one of those cones thingies that go around the head to prevent her from scratching it fully (the thingie itself won't cost a lot).

I would consult your vet before trying any of the below, just in case cats turn out to be over-sensitive to any of it.

You could try all the usual home-remedies that people use on their own fungal infections: diluted white vinegar applied topically. Tea-tree oil or olive leaf extract (topical, both applied diluted).

Keep the area clean. There's controversy about whether it's worthwhile to shave the area; the main thinking is not to shave, as it seems to spread the fungus. The fungal spores can still infect the cat for up to 2 years after they were shed, so best to kill it on the cat, not let it spread.

Fungal infection in felines is generally ringworm which is caused by fungus growing in the dead, superficial skin layers of the hair, nail or neck. The fungus which causes ringworms are called dermatophytes and in cats the most common is Microsporium canis.

The most infectious stage of the fungus is the spores which can be caught by either being in contact with another infectious animal or by being in an environment exposed to spores. This infection leads to hair loss and formation of discrete skin lesions which are surrounded by areas of hair loss.

The herbal home treatment for this type of infection is to add herbs Calendula, Yarrow, Thuja to one jar of Pawpaw. To this also add Bach Flowers Larch, Crab Apple, Elm and Rescue Remedy.
The other treatments you can use are application of undiluted cider vinegar to the spot six times a day till the infection is cleared.

Other treatments include application of iodine to the spot and the fungal infection should soon clear. One treatment is using bleach diluted with six times water and apply it to the area which is affected. You can use tea tree oil and apply to the spot using a Q-Tip.
