In-house teaching or training can be anything which involves a teacher or expert coming to an organisation or company and imparting knowledge or skills to the staff. Teaching experience may be less important here than subject knowledge; in fact the "lesson" may well be more in the form of a presentation, with the trainer just showing and explaining the material rather than teaching in the usual sense. The learners are likely to be highly focused on the task, and needing to get through a lot of material in a short time. The material itself needs to be completely relevant and tailored to what the learners need for their jobs. A common type of in-house training is foreign language lessons paid for and arranged by the company, where a teacher comes in to give the staff practice during working hours. Such lessons will be very different to what they might learn in their free time (in evening classes, for instance;) they will be based on the work situations in which the staff use the target language.

One of the most important aspects of in house training is to provide a setting of safety and trust, by creating an innovative atmosphere free of judgment. Instructional techniques need to vary pending on the audience honoring different adult learning styles. A format for constructive dialogue honors everyone's truth leading to task accomplishment, relationship building, and a personal sense of meaning. By working in teams and experientially a community for learning evolves affording everyone an opportunity to continually grow and learn.
