    Folic acid belongs to the group of Vitamin B. it is a water soluble vitamin. It is insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. It is found in natural food or food can even be supplemented with Folic Acid. It is also known as Vitamin B9, Vitamin M, Folacin or pteroyl-L-glutamic acid. The main sources of food rich in folic acid are: spinach, Turnip greens, dried beans, peas, some fruits and vegetables, sunflower seeds and some fortified cereal products. Fruits rich in foliate are generally citrus fruits like orange and fruits like papaya and banana.

    Breakfast cereals that are fortified, beef liver, asparagus, long rice, broccoli, raw avocado, peanuts, lettuce, wheat germ, tomato juice, orange juice, egg and cantaloupe are some other sources of food that contain folic acid. Folate prevents anemia caused due to pregnancy. Thousand micrograms is the recommended amount of daily folate intake for adult males and females above nineteen years of age. Thousand is recommended during pregnancy and during breast feeding.
