Fuel injection refers to any of the numerous procedures or mechanical arrangements wherein fuel is disintegrated into a fine spray. This is then inserted into the cylinders of an engine that works on internal combustion, by means of injection.
The delivery of a metered quantity of fuel, which is under pressure, into the ingestion airflow or combustion compartment is called as fuel injection. The metering of the fuel charge can be done through either mechanical or electronic means.
In a diesel engine, the fuel is injected straight into the combustion chamber or indirectly into a linked auxiliary chamber.
In a spark-ignition type of engine, the air is injected with fuel before entering the combustion chamber. This is done by spraying the fuel into the stream of air that passes through the throttle body or the air that flows to the intake valve.

Fuel injection is the spraying of fuel into the cylander of an engine so that when the spark plug and pressure are combined, it allows an explosion to keep the engine turning over.
Previously, vehicles had carberators that would mix fuel and air, putting this mixture in the intake manifold. It was not a very efficient way to do it as the fuel would remain a liquid and caused spark plugs to foul out more often.
Fuel injection still uses the intake manifold but by spraying the fuel into the air, as it does, the fuel is better vaporizes and makes for a cleaner, better running engine that is less likely to fould the plugs. Also, the injectors can be controlled by the computer to spray more or less fuel under different conditions and the carberator was not able to do this.
