Why Is My Cat Grinding His Teeth?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cats will grind their teeth for various reasons. One is that they are nauseous. Make sure your cat is not on any medication that lists this as a side effect. Also try changing his diet from dry food to wet food, or the other way around if you currently give him wet food, as this might be a reason. If this is not the case, then you have to take your cat to the local vet as it could have one of many various problems, all of which need to be tests for.

If the cat is salivating a lot, it is possibly because of oral pain. Most common causes are tooth disorders, gum aches, oral lesions, or a fractured tooth. After ruling out oral pain, your vet will need to rule out abdominal and neurological disorders as well, as these can also cause teeth grinding.
