Where Can I Renew A US Passport?

Answer Question

If you live in any foreign country, except Canada, you must renew your passport by visiting the US consulate or embassy nearest to your place of residence.

For those residing in Canada or the United States,  you can submit your renewal forms by regular mail to: National Passport Processing, P.O. Box 13349, Philadelphia, PA 19101-3349. In this case, you must use form "DS-82," which you can download from the US Department of State's website. The application fee is currently $67 and this must be paid at the time of application. If you are mailing in your request, you must include a cheque for this amount payable to the Department of State. You must also include two passport photos, as well as your expired, or soon-to-expire passport. If you are in a rush to get your new passport, you may request expedited service for an additional $60, as well as the cost of courier. Rather than the standard 6 week processing period, expedited service allows you to receive your new travel document within two weeks.

The United States of America has certain specified rules and regulations that need to be adhered to by anyone seeking passport assistance. This important document is only issued by the Passport Services Department of the US Department of State. This department holds the exclusive right to grant or issue, renew or verify a US passport. The department is accessible at the following address:
      National Passport Processing,
      PO Box: 13349,
      Philadelphia,
      PA-19101 3349

A passport is usually renewed when the existing document's expiry date is drawing near. A passport is very crucial, especially to those who travel on work extensively. The document serves as an identity proof and a proof of residence. A US passport can be renewed either online or offline. Online, the Passport Renewal Application form needs to be downloaded from the dedicated website www.travel.stategov/passport. The form should be duly filled, with all the information documented within the spaces provided and submitted by or before the date specified.

Offline, the Passport Renewal Form needs to be accessed from the National Passport Processing office address specified above. The DS-82 application form should be duly filled and signed and submitted before the date of submission specified by the issuing authorities. The fee applicable is $67 and is paid to the US Department of State. If there is an urgent requirement for the passport, the application form should specify 'expedited service'.

In my state, WI, you can file for a passport at the U.S. Post Office. It is mailed from there.  Our post office takes pictures but you can also have a picture taken at copy shops like Kinko's or other places. If you are renewing, they usually want you to surrender your old one so it can't be used illegally, but you can always state it was lost to keep it  as a memento (with the country stamps).

Now with the change in laws,  the time taken to get your passport is a lot longer with more people needing one now.
