It really depends on the person. Personally I'm happy I'm not popular. Imagine living your life as an image so that your friends can accept you. It sounds tiring. You need to be your own self. You will find friends last forever if they know you're a real person and not a phony.

Being popular is like living in a glass house. Everyone can see in and when you make the slightest mistake, everyone knows about it. It is better to be true to yourself and your friends than strive for a false goal of popularity.
