Are There Any Drawbacks To Working At Home?

Yes, despite all the hype about how working at home is great, there are certain drawbacks, which if you are considering working from home, you need to think about them before you encounter them.
The first is that it can be hard to get motivated and so instead of devoting yourself to work you can find yourself suddenly needing to go to town or watch something mindnumbing on tv.
Conversely, it can be hard to switch off, so you can find yourself, stuck in your little office, when really you should be out enjoying life !
There can also be problems of isolation: no office gossip, no banter and office parties for one are not much fun.
However, there are so many advantages such as flexibility (particularly when its nice outside...), no boring colleagues or political goings on and so on, that the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages.  But at the end of the day it is work: still no bed of roses....

One of the main drawbacksof working from home is isloation if you enjoy meeting people.
If you have other family members or houseshare people at home in the day time it can be difficult to get them to understand that you need peace to work and that being at home is actually working! Some people tend to think that because you work from home that it isn't really working! Constant interupptions can hold you back and shatter concentration.
The good things about working from home are obviously no travelling, no expaenses for travel and food and more time to enjoy non-work time. It can be difficult to get started so it's a good idea to try and train yourself to have some work framework by which to work by. Neighbours and friends need to be told not to drop in for a chat as you need peace to work.
If you work freelance from home remeber that no work equals no pay at that can be a big drawback.
Overall it is good tobe able to work from home.
