Thru is informal for the word 'through'. The word 'through' means from one end to the other. It can also mean 'to conclude' or 'to put an end to'. The informal use of 'thru' is popularly used in text messaging and other forms of short messaging. There is a slight difference when one conveys the meaning of 'from one end to another', in the UK English and the US English. Here is the difference:
• I worked Monday to Friday last week.(UK English)
• I worked Monday through Friday last week(US English)
Some of the other meanings of through (thru) are: from beginning to the end, during, throughout, from side to side, from end to end etc.
