Ethiopian history suggests that its early emperors were from the offspring of Queen of Sheba and King Solomon (who was the King of Israel and died about 937 B.C.). Legend is present that Queen Makeda of Askum, the wonderful city on the high central plateau of Ethiopia and was formerly called Sheba, visited King Solomon and together they had a son. He was named Menelik, who later grew to become the first Ethiopian empire.

But there are certain doubts about this supposed parable as Askum was not that influential or instrumental of a city to have a ruler of such wealth and power be a queen from that city. Another allegory suggests that there could have been a Queen of Sheba in the Yemen, the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. Nevertheless there is no sound authenticity of either of these conjectures, yet history marks the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon as few of the most charismatic and influential of rulers that the world has ever witnessed.
