Dark room is a special place in the photography term here the pictures have been developed. It is a separate area where the photograph has been developed. It was used since from the 19th century so its concept is not new one and at that time it was used to develop for the black and white photography. By the help of this black and white film the photographers will be able to control all the steps required in the photography.
Now do think that if the term is the darkroom so it is completely dark when making the prints of the photographs.
It is because of this, that some or you can say most of the black and white print papers are insightful with the different lights, like they are sensitive to blue or green lights. While making these dark rooms it was the most important feature to be made darkroom red or amber colored light, and this term is known as safe light.
In some cases a low intensity of orange and yellow light are also be very helpful.
Second use of the darkroom is that you can load your films in and out of the cameras which required the complete darkness.

A darkroom is a room absent of light for the processing of film (and handling of film in certain situations). This is due to film's nature. Film exposes to light (that's how a photo is made). So, to avoid unwanted exposure, film is processed in darkness. A darkroom gives a photographer an extra step in displaying his vision through manipulation of the images by various techniques. Today, there is also the "digital darkroom". It is not in a "dark" room anymore, but rather on the computer where photos are manipulated. Images can be manipulated by different means than before, but still manipulated.
