Joplings is a department store in Sunderland, in England. A city and port, Sunderland is located in the metropolitan borough, the City of Sunderland. It falls in the county of Tyne and Wear which is in North East England.
Joplings is a division of the Owen Owen group of department stores. Joplings was set up in the year 1804. However, in December 1954 the store was razed due to a fire and had to operate from temporary locale until its current purpose-built building was opened in the year 1956.
The Sunderland area belongs to the Anglican Diocese of Durham. Sunderland has been part of the Roman Catholic diocese of Hexham and Newcastle ever since the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in the year 1850. A fun fact to note is that Sunderland used to be referred to as 'Sunderland-near-the-Sea'.
