The medical term for stretch marks is 'stria'. Stretch marks occur when skin has to stretch very quickly over a short period of time, to fit over your enlarging body during pregnancy. 90% of women will get stretch marks whilst pregnant, mainly on the stomach, bottom, breasts and thighs, stretch marks appear firstly as raised red lines, turning purple until they turn into scar like lines.

Stretch marks also occur when people put on weigh very quickly and during puberty. Over time stretch marks do fade and become less noticeable. There are many creams and lotions on the market claiming to help stretch marks fade, but there is no scientific evidence to back this. You may be able to reduce your risk of getting stretch marks by trying not to put on too much weight whilst pregnant. Most experts believe that there is no sure way to prevent stretch marks and a lot of it is down to genetics and the make up of your connective tissue.

During my first pregnancy I used Johnson and Johnson baby lotion, and I didn't get any stretch marks, during my second pregnancy I used baby lotion and cocoa butter lotion, during my third pregnancy I used the same. I may have 3 small stretch marks. Good Luck!!
