Who Won The Battle Of Hastings?

Answer Question

The Battle of Hastings which took place in October 1066 was won by William of Normandy when he killed King Harold of England and his brothers.
William had decided to invade England after Harold was made king, because William actually had two claims to the throne.  First, Edward the Confessor had actually promised him the throne and second Harold had actually sworn allegiance to William, so he felt that he was the rightful king, not Harold.
Although the numbers were fairly evenly matched with the English having 7,500 men and the French around 7,000 the battle was an ignominious defeat for the English and William basically annihilated the English, including Harold and his brothers.
William was known as both Willliam the Conqueror and William the Bastard, since he was illegitimate, but he ruled England from 1066-1087 although not all of England actually accepted him as King and he was never popular.
