Grover Joseph Rees III, a Loisiana lawyer, was born in New Orleans in 1951. In 1978, Rees graduated from LSU's Paul M. Hebert Law School after obtaining his undergraduate degree from Yale University in Connticut.
He is the ambassador of the United States to the Democratic Republic of East Timor. In December 2002, Rees presented his qualifications to Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, President of East Timor. In 1975, East Timor was declared independent from Portugal. Rees has always been known for his passion of standing up for the life and rights of the oppressed people. Rees, in his first speech, said that the United States is pleased with the Asian country for achieving a level of democracy and freedom.
