you need to all have a calm discussion. How well do you take care of yourself your room etc--how reponsible are U they are a big responsibilty--your parents probably dont want any added jobs. Are you capable of feeding, changing litter etc for a cat--if price is an issue somethings people give kitten away for free or try your local pound--not free but usually reasonably price

Just tell them. Tell them you,ll help out around the house.do what your told. And don't push it. Tell them you would like to have a cat.and you'll take care of it. I'm sure they'll give you one. That's how i got my first dog.i was four years old. But i kept my part up. I did what i was told. And i got ginger. My frist dog.i had her for 16 years. I miss her a lot. But know i have two dogs. And there fun to have around. I hope this helps you out. Good luck on getting your cat. Scobby-doo.

Why not volunteer at your local animal shelter? You'll get your fix of cats and learn to care for them at the same time, and your folks will see that you're being responsible - and for yourself, you'll find out if you really do want to have to look after one, without the obligation of owning right away. Good luck!

I am going through the exact same issue. I really want a cat/kitten but my mom is totally against the idea. I have tryed everything talking to them but they say that they still dont want one. i will just have to try and keep bothering them and also I think I will try to convince them to foster one so they can see how it would be.

Well this is how you do that what i did was i snuck the cat in to my room got some litter and food and hide it in my room then one day just open the door when your parents go to work and let the kitten run the house they will come home and think its cute and let you keep it it always works

I read all the answers above, and this is why so many animals are in shelters. Just because they are cute, doesn't mean you should have one. There are issues of cats not using litter boxes, needing spade or neutered, and problems if they are not, clawing of furniture, family going a way on vacation, cost of food, litter and vet bills, yearly shots, odor in the house that is offensive to your family and guests, and much more. Believe it or not, I am a cat breeder. We do not like our kittens ending up at the spca because children are bored with them and they're care. Bravo to your parents!

Maybe your parents are disapproving of a cat for very good reasons. You need to sit down with them to find out. Before you do though, consider the fact that a lot of people are allergic to them...it's not that they don't like them, but some people have serious health issues with them, and all animals will shed hair, even when combed, brushed, and more so ,after bathing .Then there is the clawing ...they will claw furniture,if you don't provide a scratching post for them, and some will still get at the furniture. There are a lot of expenses involved also, and the cost of a veterinarian (for shots, and neuter,and/or spay,is not going to be cheap),then the food and litter, toys etc.,it all adds up.Another factor to consider is,whether or not you own the home your in,or rent...a lot of landlords will not permit pets. What happens to the animal, should you move?(to go off to school?Where are you going to take it if you vacation?(You can "board" them, but ,then again, there's another expense). All of these things should be considered,BEFORE anyone gets a pet.The shelters are full of animals that people "wanted",at one time or another....and now they are tossed away like yesterdays newspaper. So please take the time to be a responsible pet owner...before...you get one.It is a lifelong commitment on your part.
