President Reagan hated this because it put a happier face on the 'Evil Empire' of the Soviet Union that people had worked so hard to invent. Samantha Smith became a world figure for peace, but was sadly killed in a plane crash in 1985. She was the greatest threat to the Reagan Administrations image of Russia as the aggressor, she was the world's greatest hope for Peace.
