Residents of Québec, who are also Canadian citizens and are over 18 years of age have the right to vote in provincial elections. Any Canadian citizen may meet the residency requirement by living in Québec for at least six months.
Voters who plan to be out of the province on election day may also cast their ballot by post. For this year's March 26 elections, however, residents who will be away must register no later than March 7 in order to vote by mail. Moreover, only those residents are eligible to vote in advance by post who have resided outside Québec for a period no longer than two years and who intend to return to the province.
On voting day, polling stations open at 9:30am and close at 8:00pm. All registered electors should receive a "reminder card" which notes the location of each voter's designated polling station. All voters must produce a picture I.D. at the polling station, such as a Québec health insurance card, a driver's permit or a valid Canadian passport.
