How Many Broadband Connections Are There In The UK?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

By the end of 2006, there were 13.1 million broadband connections in the UK, an increase of more than 3.1 million new lines on the previous year.

However, the speed of growth is beginning to slow down as the exchange upgrade programme by BT comes to a close. The growth rate for 2006 was down by a fifth on the previous year thanks to greater levels of broadband availability and adoption. Other contributing factors to the reduced growth in broadband connections were delays in activating 'free broadband' lines and local loop unbundling.

But we are still some way off from demand for broadband connections drying up. Some 10 million households in the UK are still without any form of internet access. It is estimated that at least a fifth of these households are contemplating getting online before the middle of 2007, and 90 per cent of these households will opt for broadband.
