Where In Great Britain Is Pontypool?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In the south west of Wales and towards the west of England, within the county of Monmouthshire is located the town of Pontypool. The town gets its name from either one of the two bridges that existed there with similar names.

The town has a population of over 35,000. The town was traditionally very prosperous with iron and steel plants and the coal industries dominating the manufacturing sector. It was also known for its high quality lacquer products.

The industrial town saw decline with the end of the primary iron and steel industry. Local businesses and entrepreneurs suffered more during the mid 90s when a bypass was built to divert traffic from the town's center and decongest the area. Steps to rejuvenate the town taken during the beginning of this decade are bearing fruit.
