Well, you have to be an astronaut to go in space. No man has even gone in space that is on another planet, including the moon or mars, unless he was a part of a space exploration project and is a highly qualified space astronaut. NASA which is National Aeronautics and Space Administration has launched the maximum number of rockets, also known as space shuttles to outer space in the early 20th century. The first orbital launch took place in year 1957 and orbited around earth with no humans.
However, the first human to ever leave the space and go to outer space was Yuri Gagarin in 1961. NASA holds an Astronaut training program every two years and chooses only about 100 men and women from all over the world to be a part/candidate for this extensive astronaut training program. You have to be exceedingly good with whatever that you are doing, to be a potential candidate. Be it math, science, logic and anything space related or otherwise.
