Chest pains are symptoms of other conditions that a person may be suffering, some serious such as those arising from cardiac problems and those that are non cardiac related and hence not as serious. Chest pains related to the heart mostly require immediate medical attention. Cardiovascular and pulmonary reasons that may be the cause of chest pain include acute coronary syndrome, aortic dissection, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism and hemothorax etc. There are certain other factors that can cause chest pains including gastrointestinal ailments; problems with the chest such as fibromyalgia, spinal nerve problems, herpes zoster; psychological problems such as anxiety, clinical depression, panic attacks etc. Certain other health problems such as hyperventilation syndrome, Bornholm disease, Precordial catch syndrome etc can also result in chest pains.
