How Do You Know When Kittens Can Be Seperated From Their Mother? We Have Kittens In Our Window Well And The Stray Mother Is Still With Them. We Think They Are About 3 - 3 1/2 Weeks Old. They Are Now Standing Up And Moving Around. It Has Been Cold At Night But They Seem To Be Ok. We Put A Blanket In With Them But They Are Not Laying On It. Can We Hold Them Yet?

Kittens typically need to nurse for 6 weeks, longer if possible. They get natural antibodies from the mom that helps them develop a strong immune system. She will wean them when the time is right. In the meantime, you can start introducing them to some gruel made from kitten milk replacer (at pet stores) and wet canned food. You can make it very watery, put it on your finder and rub in on their mouth. Once they get a taste they will want to climb in the plate and eat it themselves.
